AN INTERVIEW WITH MRS GIULIA

Mrs Giulia tells of the tradition of crafting Irish lace on Isola Maggiore. This type of needlework was introduced by the Marquess Elena, daughter of Marquis Giacinto Guglielmi, in 1904. The noblewoman called in a teacher all the way from Ireland to train island girls in this technique. The finest thread and smallest crochet hooks are still used by expert craftswomen to obtain minute and elaborate motifs.
