L’Oso is a restaurant on Isola Maggiore, the largest of Lake Trasimeno’s islands. The island can be reached from Tuoro by ferry and the restaurant, in fact, takes its name from one of the first ferries to serve the lake, Oso, part of a small fleet of steamboats financed by the Guglielmi family, proprietors of the Isabella Castle.

In 1933, Queen Elena travelled to the island on the Oso as a guest of the noble family. The restaurant is family-run, and its owners pride in their traditional menu which includes specialties prepared with fresh fish from the lake, local mushrooms and truffles, wines from the region and other dishes from the traditional Umbrian cuisine, served, when the weather allows, on the open terrace and lake-side garden.

After dinner, a private boat ensures the restaurant’s patrons can make their way back across the waters to Tuoro, even after the ferry boat service has closed for the night.
